The Washington Post is reporting President Trump is expected to approve the release of the infamous “Nunes memo,” though redacted, and will kick it back to the House of Representatives. From there, the GOP-led House Intelligence Committee will likely release it to the public.

The memo is a “four-page document, prepared by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) [that] alleges serious abuses of power by the FBI during its investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia,” Vox reports. The Vox story goes in depth and answers all of your questions.

Because this is America and there’s no such thing as nonpartisan, Republicans are clamoring that it proves bias at the FBI against the president. It’s all just a witch hunt.

Democrats claim the document is misleading and are now calling for Nunes to be removed from his post on the Intelligence Committee.

And the FBI issued the following statement:

The FBI takes seriously its obligations to the FISA Court and its compliance with procedures overseen by career professionals in the Department of Justice and the FBI. We are committed to working with the appropriate oversight entities to ensure the continuing integrity of the FISA process.

With regard to the House Intelligence Committee’s memorandum, the FBI was provided a limited opportunity to review this memo the day before the committee voted to release it. As expressed during our initial review, we have grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy.

There is one question I have and can’t seem to get an answer. Why are the same people who call for a border wall because of national security concerns so anxious to release a document the FBI says will compromise national security? The answer is simple. Because this is America and there’s no such thing as nonpartisan.

We are so divided as a nation that nothing can be discussed without it turning into a fight. What could have simply been a rational debate about the FISA process is now a rabid free-for-all that really has nothing to do with FISA and everything to do with attempting to prove the FBI is against the current administration. It’s easy to write this off as a distraction.

Maybe it is.
